'Cold' pressed steel piping in gas installations using Megapress G

Megapress from Viega can press thick-walled steel pipes in seconds. That is significantly faster and safer than welding. As of now, the advantages of this technology can be used in gas installations as well. The new Megapress G connectors have been tested and approved for natural gas and liquid gas, as well as for heating oil and diesel fuels, compressed air containing oil and technical gases.

The Megapress G connectors are made of 1.0308 steel and have a zinc-nickel coating. They can be used with black, galvananised or painted steel pipe, which can be either seamless or welded along the longitudinal seam. A special profile sealing element made of HNBR guarantees that the press connections have the required degree of sealing, even where the pipe surface is rough.

A comprehensive range for the market launch

Like all Viega press connectors, the Megapress G connectors feature the tried and tested Viega SC-Contur: This means that any connections that have remained unpressed inadvertently can immediately be identified in the leakage test. When pressed, the connections are reliably sealed.

With immediate effect, the thought-through Megapress G range includes over 100 articles in the sizes ½ to 2 inches. The range covers not only elbows and threaded adaptors, but also T-pieces, reducing elbows, flanges, screw fittings and caps.

To prevent the possibility of confusion, the Megapress G connectors are marked in yellow and packed in yellow bags. For even more safety, each press connection has a label that is removed after pressing.

All connectors can be pressed without difficulty using the familiar Viega press tools. In addition to the matching press jaws and rings, Viega also supplies a practical box of accessories. This contains three press jaws from ½ to 1 inch, three press rings for the nominal widths 1¼ to 2 inches, and a hinged adapter jaw. The press rings allow the connectors to be applied easily even where not much space is available.

The Megapress range

With the Megapress piping system, Viega is the first manufacturer to extend the advantages of rapid pressing technology to the installation of thick-walled steel pipes. The size range from 3/8 to 2 inches includes all the essential installation components that are needed for connecting radiators, as well as for steel pipe installation in heating and cooling plants and industrial applications such as those involving compressed air, fire extinguishing and sprinkler systems. With these new Megapress connectors for gas installations, Viega's press connector system for thick-walled steel pipes is now complete.
